Make a family album about one shared occasion

Creating a family photo album involves choosing whose experience and which occasion the book follows. A single event can be easier to explain than an undefined collection of family pictures. Save your own photos and writing as dated records, locate them by date and tags and select scenes that show the event’s stages. Let notes identify what happened without adding unverified quotations or claims about other people’s feelings.

Fictional composition example

In this fictional example, one person collects records of a family picnic. A preparation photo, an activity and the end of the outing give the book a simple beginning and finish. A short note explains each stage. Several similar lunch-table photographs are not all included, leaving room for an image that shows the surroundings.

  1. Name the occasion and date range and identify the stored records that explain its different stages.
  2. Select those records for a book and adjust photos and your own notes so a reader can distinguish the stages.
  3. Review the full PDF for a clear beginning and ending and correct captions that claim more than the records show.
Which occasion should I start with?

Choose one event and its date range so you can recognise its preparation, activity and ending in your saved records.

How do I choose between similar family photos?

Keep the image that adds a distinct stage or context. Repeated portraits do not all need to enter this book.

What belongs in a family caption?

Describe the event from your own records. Check names and avoid unverified quotations or claims about how others felt.
