Choose a year-in-review layout that follows your actual records

A year-in-review template needs a selection rule before it needs decoration. Decide whether the book follows months or changes in one subject, then find saved records by date and tags. Uneven months can have uneven space: a quiet period does not need filler photos merely to match a busy holiday. Your own short notes should explain what changed between the selected scenes.

Fictional composition example

In this fictional example, a person compares a winter project, a spring outing and a summer reunion. Instead of twelve identical chapter openings, they give the project several pages and the outing one spread. A note explains why a particular scene matters; repeated group poses stay out of the book selection.

  1. Choose chronological chapters or a single recurring theme and list the dated records that support it.
  2. Generate a book from those records, then vary photo sizes manually where an event needs emphasis.
  3. Read across chapter boundaries and open the downloaded PDF to check that the year makes sense without filler scenes.
Must every month have the same space?

No. Give each recorded period the space it needs; leave an empty month out rather than inventing scenes.

Should I organise the year by months or one theme?

Use months when the sequence matters, or follow one recurring subject when that better explains the changes. Check your saved dates either way.

Will a template write my annual summary?

No. You choose the dated records and edit your own notes after the initial page arrangement.
